Shailesh Kumar Newaj is a Partner in the Risk Consulting practice at Baker Tilly Mauritius, bringing more than three decades of experience in governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, forensic advisory, financial management and business transformation. His career spans senior leadership positions across Mauritius, Madagascar and Canada, advising organisations on governance, regulatory frameworks, operational risk and strategic transformation.

Prior to joining Baker Tilly, Shailesh served as Chief Executive Officer of the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants (MIPA), the statutory regulator of the accountancy profession in Mauritius. During his tenure, he worked closely with regulators, policymakers and professional bodies to strengthen governance standards, enhance regulatory oversight and promote the adoption of internationally recognised professional and ethical frameworks.

At Baker Tilly, Shailesh advises Boards, Audit Committees, financial institutions and executive management on enterprise risk management, internal audit, AML/CFT compliance, forensic investigations, governance, regulatory compliance and data protection. He also contributes to the firm’s strategic transformation initiatives, including business process improvement, digital transformation and organisational development.

His experience spans the financial services, manufacturing, investment, real estate, construction and corporate sectors, providing advisory services to both public and private sector organisations. This broad sector exposure enables him to deliver practical solutions that address complex governance, operational and regulatory challenges.

Shailesh is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA), a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA Canada), holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and is a Fellow Member of the Mauritius Institute of Directors.
