Job brief

The Junior IoT Operations Technician to support our IoT deployments across our local customer sites — assisting with site surveys, installation, commissioning, connectivity testing, and field documentation.

He/She will work alongside other technicians, learning the trade hands-on, with a clear path to grow into the IoT Operations Technician role.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Prepare annual business development plan and initiative
    • Assist with site surveys — help assess device/asset locations, mounting and power, cabling runs, and connectivity feasibility, and help prepare survey reports.
  • Support installation and commissioning of devices, gateways, protocol converters, and edge compute units under the guidance of a senior technician.
  • Help run network coverage tests and record results (e.g. LoRaWAN RF coverage — placement, RSSI/SNR).
  • Help integrate and verify Modbus peripherals (RS485 / Modbus RTU) — check addressing and validate readings against the device.
  • Record as-built details and draft commissioning reports for review.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance on site and remotely — connectivity, power, wiring, and device faults.

     

Requirements and skills

Diploma or certification in electrical, electronics, automation, networking/telecommunications, or a related technical field.

  • Hands-on experience from an internship or practical placement in a technical, electrical/electronics, or automation setting.
  • Basic understanding of networking and electrical/electronic concepts.
  • Comfortable reading datasheets and technical manuals.
  • Motivated to learn, work hands-on in the field, and grow into the IoT Operations Technician role.
  • Valid driving license
  • Any exposure to industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC-UA, or BACnet).
  • Hands-on electrical/wiring competence — terminating RS485/serial and Ethernet, working safely in and around panels and enclosures.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings — wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, and similar.
  • Any IoT exposure (LoRaWAN, LTE-M / cellular, edge compute / gateways).
  • Familiarity with metering devices (water / electricity) and pulse counters.
  • Basic Linux / command-line comfort.
